Starting a Blog is Intimidating
I’ve been through some terrifying stuff in my life.
But, ladies, starting this blog might be one of the most terrifying things I’ve done! So, I did what comes naturally.
I Googled It
Thanks to the internet, there is an incredible amount of information at our fingertips. So, I hopped on to Google, and promptly got lost in posts, articles, YouTube videos, and every other type of content platform for all things blogging.
It was too much. I got overwhelmed with conflicting information and vastly different approaches to blogging. So I searched for bloggers that I looked up to. That had their ducks in a row already. That had traffic, monetization, and email strategies in place. And I looked to see what they said about blogging and how to get started.
I Decided to Follow In Their Footsteps
These bloggers were using their personal voice to reach and impact the world. They were able to make a living and support their families by monetizing their blog. They had a loyal following of people that wanted to hear from them.
I wanted to know what they did so right, and how I could implement similar techniques to develop my blog and find my tribe.
Online Courses Saved My Blogging Sanity
As a busy mom, I wanted to KNOW that what I was doing would make a difference in my blog. I didn’t have time to waste on tasks or plans that wouldn’t matter. So, I started taking online courses to learn from the blogging masters.
I found in-depth strategies, tasks that I could implement immediately, and the benefit of someone’s wisdom and experience that had gone before me. I didn’t want to just follow someone’s advice, I wanted to know the best practices that got them where I was wanting to go.Not every blogging course will make a difference for your business. Now, I will freely admit that I probably went a little overboard with blogging courses. But, I believe in deep diving when you want to learn something, so I went all in.
I have personally taken all of these courses, and I know they worked for me. I hope they work for you, too! FYI, I am an affiliate for some of these courses (marked with an asterisk*). I promise I ONLY recommend things I actually love.
The Best Blogging Courses I’ve Ever Paid For
Blogging Basics and Set-up
Elite Blog Academy – This is the all-in-one, end-all-be-all of blogging courses. It is a pretty big investment, but it pays off big time! This is the one course I recommend over any other. If you only invest in one course, this is it! Founder Ruth Soukup only opens the doors to this course once per year, but you can sign up to be alerted the next time enrollment opens.
Blog and Be Legal* – Jacklyn from Jade and Oak dives deep into the nitty-gritty of getting the legal side of things set up for your blog. No matter what your niche is, you need to make sure you’re covered when it comes to the legality of your site, and Jacklyn walks you through everything you need to know.
Not sure about this? Check out my favorite reasons that you need to start an email list if you are a blogger.
List Love* – Jennifer Maker is the Diva of building an email list. She grew her list from 0-10,000 in 6 months! She walks you through step by step how to make freebies, writing weekly “love letters” to your email subscribers. List Love is not always available, but you can always enroll in her List Love Quick-Start Guide* to see if it’s something you want to commit to. That is how I started, and it helped me decide whether I wanted to invest in the master course.
ConvertKit Masterclass* – This course is the best ConvertKit course I’ve seen. Monica from Redefining Mom walks you through everything you need to know to maximize ConvertKit. This has great information for beginners and seasoned bloggers alike. Don’t forget to grab a free 14-day trial of ConvertKit first (no credit card required).*
How to Create Your First Opt-in Freebie – While this course isn’t as comprehensive as List Love, it is still a very valuable source for creating an opt-in for your email list.
Setting and Achieving Blogging Goals
The 12-Week Blog Growth Strategy – If you are unsure how to create goals for your blogging, or don’t know how you could possibly find the time to grow your blog, take this course. Kim Anderson of Thrifty Little Mom and KimAndersonConsulting.com uses the 12-week year approach to teach you how to actually achieve big things in your business.
Content Creation & Writing
Create Quality Content Quickly* – A great resource for bloggers that struggle with content creation. I am not a very gifted writer, and this course helped me brainstorm post ideas, avoid writer’s block, and repurpose unused content. A must for any blogger that needs confidence in their writing skills.
Bonus! My Favorite Blogging Book
If you don’t have the cash to buy a course, I have just the thing for you! Ruth from LivingWellSpendingLess.com (founder of Elite Blog Academy up at the top of this post) put out a book all about how to start a profitable blog. For less than $10 you could get some valuable insights from the best of the best!
